Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

Because Sephora Told Me To...

I have a lot of dark spots on my face.  If you have met me in person, you have likely noticed them but were kind enough to look past them.  In pictures, I tend to Photoshop them away.  (Is that vain of me to do?  At least I’m open about it and that has to count for something).  Unfortunately, I can’t Photoshop them away in real life and I’m not willing to wear foundation.  People have always told me that once you start wearing it, you have a hard time going back to bare skin.

Because of my unwillingness to wear foundation, I sought help at Sephora.  I’d hoped they would be able to show me the perfect product that would conceal my spots but blend in well.  After trying 4-5 different products, the make-up artist threw up his arms and said, “Without foundation to blend, I simply cannot help you.”  I pleaded and begged for some wonderful solution.  He referred me to the aestatician over in the skincare department.  She looked at my spots and declared I needed to get into the dermatologist.  She pointed at several of my spots and said that they were just sun/age spots but there was one that was different.  (In the picture it is the one closest to my eye).

This happened nearly a year ago.  But I kept putting it off.

Last Friday I finally made it in to see the doctor.  I wanted to go to one that would care about the cosmetic aspect of it and wouldn’t start cutting away just for the sake of cutting.  So I went to the only young female dermatologist I could find.  (I confess, I stereotyped).

I was sitting on the examination table in my hospital gown when the doctor walked in.  First thing she said to me was “Wow, good thing you came in.  That spot on your face is pre-cancerous and we need to get rid of that.  You’ll want to watch it carefully and if it comes back you need to come back in.”

For just under a week, I’ve had a lovely scab on my face.  Today it came off and now I will keep my fingers crossed that it doesn’t come back.

So, thank you Sephora.

And if you have any spots that look different, from your normal moles or freckles, please get in to your dermatologist.  Skin cancer is not something to mess around with, just ask some of my friends who have lost a parent to melanoma.

It was a great post. I hate cancer even worse, I’m so glad you did something about it. I will pin this to my pinterest friends.

Your post is interesting. I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with it. I’ve got a little problem in my face near my left ear. It’s like a dry skin, but isn’t. Thanks for sharing.

Is it effective for some skin allergies too? I hope so.. Can’t wait for your next post

  • Good thing you had it checked out! I had a close friend die when she was only 23 because of skin cancer.

As for age spots there are some great peels and skin lightening products out there that can help.

Wow! Is this so true? I would love to know how you actually apply the Sephora? Is it effective for some skin allergies too? I hope so.. Can’t wait for your next post.

That’s great to know! Can you share more about Sephora? I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with it. I’ve got a little problem in my face near my left ear. It’s like a dry skin, but isn’t.

  • So glad you went in and praying it stays AWAY! ((HUGS))

I hate age spots, but I hate cancer even worse. I’m so glad you did something about it! So many times we overlook those spots and justify them as something benign. My brother did that with a spot on his forearm but with a lot of coercing from his wife (a dr), he went in and had to have pretty much half of the skin on his forearm removed because it was cancerous! Amy, you’re beautiful – even with a scab on your cheek!

I agree, skin cancer is not good or pretty! I hope yours doesn’t come back, you did a good thing to catch it early!

I’m so glad you went in! I finally visited the dermatologist after a good 8 years since my last visit. Fortunately nothing was pre-cancerous but I did get an age spot zapped. And I am convinced about getting a chemical peel (once a year) to help with the other age spots and nice little scars left over from adult (monthly) acne. 😉

A chemical peel is very tempting. So far my burn spot is still really red so I’m not sure I want to try it on my age spots. 🙁
