Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

Campers – that’s what we call ourselves

We like to consider ourselves outdoorsy and campers.

Our girls have their own fishing poles.  Scott gets a fishing license every year.  Many years he even gets a duck hunting license.

When Scott and I were dating, really early on we invested in waders so that I could go duck hunting with him.  (Don’t worry, I never shot a duck and the one time I tried I landed flat on my bum – into a large puddle of mud.  Talk about a way to impress the man of your dreams).

Part of our honeymoon was spent camping at the Sand Dunes.

A big chunk of the money we received as wedding gifts went to camping supplies.

We’re “campers”.

Yet, since we’ve had kids I can list every single camping trip we’ve done.

1. Sand Dunes with my nephews when Jade was four months old.

2. Mirror Lake when Ivy was 18 months old.  (Notice a 4 1/2 year break between camping trips?)

3. Father-Kid outing for church (Just Scott and Jade 2008)

4. Father-Kid outing for church (Just Scott and the girls 2009) (What kind of dad doesn’t take a picture, messing up my whole post?… sigh).

5. Yuba Lake for our first time “boat camping” this summer.

I don’t think we should call ourselves campers any more.  Or if we are going to take on that label, we should maybe go camping a little more often.

That picture at Mirror Lake is stunning and dreamy-looking. Where exactly is that?

We’re taking our girls tent-camping next weekend! SO excited.

Hubby and boys are in the Uintas by Mirror Lake right now!! LOL!! We do have a trailer though, so I guess we cheat. For me, it’s the only way to camp… comfortable, anyway. ;D

Things always change a bit, life happens. 😉

Sounds like you still have the desire to go camping so I think you can still call yourselves campers. Our boys have a tent and sleeping bags, but so far we’ve only camped out indoors. Hoping to try it outside soon!

I camped a LOT when I was growing up. The last time I camped was when my oldest (now 11) wasn’t even 18 months old. For me, at this stage of my life, camping is simply: going outside to do four times the work. Some day . . .

Good for you guys! Never once have I camped and never once will i EVER camp!

  • I think you can still call yourselves campers. After all- you still have the equipment!

  • I think you can still call yourselves campers considering you’ve gone camping more times since your kids were born than I have in my entire life! And at least you have all the gear. I have an air-mattress and thats all…the last time my husband and I went camping we had to borrow a tent b/c there wasn’t really any use in buying one since we knew it do nothing but collect dust after that one use! So yeah, I’d still think you were “campers”.

  • Visiting from the Writers Workshop ..I’ve been camping a few times over the years but living in Florida the window of when it is not too hot is very small…I’d love to try camping someplace else..like the mountains or some of the places in your pictures!

You can still call yourselves “campers”, you just don’t go camping quite as often as you’d like. I can see it being harder to camp once kids are in the picture! It sounds like something you and your husband really enjoyed; maybe you can start going more often when the kids are a little older?

  • I have grown prissy. I used to be a tent camper, until the last several times, I had to pee every 30 minutes, was freezing, couldn’t sleep, etc. It was miserable. I need to buy a nice Windstream. What’s $100,000?
