Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

Cookies, Flowers and Little Girls

Scott was out of town last Thursday through Saturday.  We were looking forward to some fun girl time.

We’d been planning what to do all week.  I offered  taking them to a movie, baking cookies, going to the Tulip festival or playing in the yard.

Both girls voted for cookie making and I was happy to oblige.  I love cooking but I’m not a great baker.

The day after we decided what to do, both girls were being extremely selfish.  (They do that more often than I would like to admit).

I sat them down and talked to them about thinking about other people before thinking about themselves.  I want them to remember to take care of other’s needs first.

After we finished the discussion, (or lecture) the girls suggested that we make lots of cookies and take them around to all of the neighbors.

So our plan evolved from making some cookies to making a LOT of cookies.  Between our family members and our neighbors we decided we needed to make 5 different kind of cookies.

We made Marble Cookies, Rolo Cookies, Milk Chocolate Chip, Peanut Blossom and No Bake Cookies.  (Recipes and links will have to follow on another post because my google reader isn’t working and my recipes are at home on my desktop and I’m in Raleigh with my laptop).

The girls both worked really hard on all of the different flavors and were so excited to deliver them.

Jade and Ivy put tissue paper in the bags and then Jade put the cookies into each bag and I tied them up.  We used a picture of tulips that I took last year and printed them up at Costco.

The girls ran them around to all of the neighbors that were home and we took the rest on Mother’s Day.

It was a blast doing it and I’m ready to make more cookies and do it all over again.

Check out some great Wordful Wednesdays over at…

Debi and Brenda- if you were my neighbors we would love to bring you cookies.

Paige- I’ll get the recipes up this weekend. I’m out of town until tomorrow night.

Angie- That is so funny you did the same thing this weekend. My mom raised me to believe in presentation and my husband is just like my mom (There have been times in our marriage that he has had my mom change dishes to better compliment the dinner – true story!) Without their influences, i would have just put them on a plate with tin foil or seran wrap. 🙂

Camille- I can totally relate to your mom. There have been times when I’ve thrown away something we were doing “nice” for someone else because the girls started fighting or complaining. Although, I have yet to punch a cake. But, I guess she got her point across and left a lasting impression 🙂

Thanks, Anne. It was definitely fun. 🙂

  • What a fun and generous day!

What a sweet neighbor you are! And teaching your girls some good life lessons. It reminded me of myself as a little girl and my mom trying to teach us the same lesson. (She’d die if she ever knew I was sharing this across the web!) We were being so obnoxiously selfish, whining and crying saying, “why are you always making stuff for the neighbors? You never make anything for us!” I think we just pushed our mom to the limits because she punched the freshly baked cake she had made for the neighbors (whose mom was in the hospital) pushed it towards us and said, “there you go”. I’m pretty sure that was the turning point for us. 🙂

  • They look so yummy! I’d love the recipe. I love to bake and try new cookies and the Bear loves to eat them! I’ve always loved no bake cookies.

The photo of the girls is very pretty.

I am currently in the throws of cookie withdraw. Hoping these delicious photos will pull me through the tremors and the sweats. Finger crossed anyway or I may be up baking cookies and eating in the morning which is SO not a diet approved activity! Great shots by the way!

when you’re done with your diet, you’ll need to try at least one of these cookies. my favs were the rolo, but the dads in the neighborhood agreed the no-bakes were their favs.
